Yeah, you know you shopped there before a big night out at Poseur's, the Nightclub 9:30, DC Space or damn near anywhere where you needed to be "seen," am I right? Whether it was for bondage pants, a leather biker jacket, a punk rock t-shirt, Manic Panic or just a Specials button, you knew just where to go!
This was Georgetown Ground Zero for my suburban self... somewhere I could find things not readily available at the Annapolis Mall. The smell of hairspray and the ominous tones of Goth and techno emanated through the atmosphere there. The people watching was unparalleled. Once I discovered hardcore punk, I thought I was too cool for the place (or so I told folks), but guess what? Nothing could have been further from the truth... I miss it to this day!
And you probably do too. As many of you have seen, Commander Salamander was "resurrected" for the Wonder Woman 1984 movie right near the original location... and people went bananas! It's a bit of a tease, but seeing the facsimile of this venerable shop sent shockwaves of nostalgia throughout our vintage DC scenester community. I tried to capture the essence of the place through this print... I hope I at least came close to hitting the mark!
This is printed via Giclée, a high end archival printing process that layers inks in a similar fashion to screening. The colors POP and the image is very sharp!
Paper stock is Moab Entrada Rag Natural - a warm white, 100% cotton, slightly textured, smooth fine art surface. All available options are standard frame sizes found at your local craft store, frame shop or IKEA! (frame NOT included)
