Commander Salamander Print - BLEMISHED
$25.00 Sold out
NOTE: These prints may have a little blurring, a scratch in the ink, or a slight off-register screen. These still look great on the wall and the defects are slight, just not what I consider to be first-quality. BUT the price reflects this! Go crazy!!!
Yeah, you know you shopped there before a big night out at Poseur's, the Nightclub 9:30, DC Space or damn near anywhere where you needed to be "seen," am I right? Whether it was for bondage pants, a leather biker jacket, a punk rock t-shirt, Manic Panic or just a Specials button, you knew just where to go!
This was Georgetown Ground Zero for my suburban self... somewhere I could find things not readily available at the Annapolis Mall. The smell of hairspray and the ominous tones of Goth and techno emanated through the atmosphere there. The people watching was unparalleled. Once I discovered hardcore punk, I thought I was too cool for the place (or so I told folks), but guess what? Nothing could have been further from the truth... I miss it to this day!
And you probably do too. Commander was "resurrected" for the Wonder Woman 2 movie right near the original location... and people went bananas! It was a bit of a tease, but the short-lived facsimile of this venerable shop sent shockwaves of nostalgia throughout our aging scenester community. I tried to capture the essence of the place through this print... I hope I at least came close to hitting the mark!
My prints are taken from my original collage works. My method is silk screening, which is time consuming but also punk as hell. The small inconsistencies in the printing assure you that these weren't churned out on some ol' laser printer. The human factor is palpable and lovable.
This is a limited-edition print (25 in all) with FOUR color layers (a first for me)! Silk-screened onto 110lb poster paper from the French Paper Company (the gold standard for poster papers!) in bold poster inks. No two exactly alike, but all are beautiful. Signed open edition. Paper size: 16" x 20", image size is 14" x 18". Fits standard frames found at your local craft store, frame shop or IKEA!
