9:30 Club and WUST Music Hall Print Set
The two progenitors of the "new" 9:30 Club now available together for one nice price!
Brand new designs for 2020! New size as well: 11" x 14", which looks awesome unmatted in a frame or in a standard 16" x 20" mat. And as an ADDED bonus, these beauties each have FIVE separate screen color layers (my previous record was four). A true feast for the eyes!
The doorway underneath the Atlantic Building sign stood sentry for the myriad wild times, cool bands and rad denizens that could be found just down the long hallway inside. While the outside of the place was batshit crazy on show nights, I took a different perspective for this print: the entrance in repose. The transom and doorway had such character that I felt they needed to be spotlighted all unto themselves. While the Atlantic Building plaque is still affixed to the facade of 930 F Street NW, it now sits above a J. Crew (oh, the irony!). The neighborhood may have gone high-end since the 80s, but we still have our memories, right?
And back when the 9:30 was still on F Street, they'd sometimes book shows at the WUST if they needed more floor space. I saw my fair share of big-bill hardcore shows there: Gang Green, SNFU, Flipper, Dead Kennedys, ALL, etc. (FunFact: I broke my rib stage-diving during SNFU... woot!) Fast forward a number of years and it seems all too obvious that this venerable radio station music hall would eventually become the new nest for the Nightclub 9:30.
Before it was the WUST it served its time as Duke Ellington's namesake jazz club, so the bonafides of this joint are iron-clad! A true piece of living history that continues to honor DC's musical culture.
As always, my printed posters are taken from my own original collage works. I silk screen them by hand, which is time consuming but also way-the-hell punk. The small inconsistencies in the printing assure you that these weren't churned out on some stinkin' laser printer.
These prints were silk screened by hand onto 100lb archival poster paper (Speckletone White from the French Paper Company) with vibrant high-quality Speedball poster inks. No two exactly alike, but all are beautiful. Limited signed edition of only 35 pieces. Paper size: 11" x 14", which fits standard frames found at your local craft store, frame shop or IKEA! (frame NOT included)
